Upgrade Your Al Desko Snacking

We all know that work demands can leave us staring at screens, tied to our desks, and reaching for whatever snacks are in arm’s-reach (usually a tactfully placed biscuit tin). But if we take a moment to look up from our computers and explore the fruit bowl, there are many possibilities to upgrade our Al Desko snacking game by opting for an apple a day.

British apples are a handy, on-the-go snack and can be eaten just as they are. You don’t even need to peel them because it provides extra fibre. With slow-releasing energy, munching on an apple can help avoid the afternoon sugar slump and they can be enjoyed with so many other foods – a great way to reach that all-important 5-a-day. Here are some of our favourite ways to snack on an apple a day.

Pick & Mix

Take your Al Desko snacking to the next level with these British apple slices topped with a variety of your favourite foods. Almond butter and cacao nibs, dark chocolate sauce and goji berries or maybe cashew butter, coconut flakes and a drizzle of honey – whatever tickles your taste buds.

Slice, Sprinkle and Dip

It’s time to get snack savvy with this Al Desko moment from @honestlyalessandra that’ll curb those sweet cravings. Simply sprinkle British apple slices with cinnamon and dip into homemade almond butter for a snack made in heaven that’ll satisfy the 3pm hunger pang.

 

Savoury Craving

If you’ve got a savoury tooth, take a leaf out of @chopstickpanorama’s book and slice up your favourite British apple and top with cream cheese, a few sprigs of fresh thyme and a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds. So easy to make and even more delicious to eat, this savoury snack is a must-try.

Get Prepping

If you’d rather get ahead of the game and prep your snacks before a busy day at work @samanthahadadi’s apple pie energy balls are for you. Simply blend your British apple of choice (try Gala or Braeburn) and mix with ground oats, sweetener, cinnamon and almond butter until the mixture sticks together in balls – add in pecans or walnuts for an extra crunch. Make a batch in advance and keep in an airtight container at work to keep the afternoon slump at bay.
