The start of a new school year is always busy juggling drop-offs, pick-ups and after-school clubs with your own packed work schedule. On top of this, you’re determined to prepare nutritious snacks and delicious dinners to fuel your children throughout the day.
To make the after-work and after-school scramble easier, we’ve prepared three simple recipes which are ideal when you need to have food on the table in the blink of an eye. On top of being healthy and filled with seasonal British apples, they all use five ingredients or less which means minimal shopping fuss.
Grab a spoon
Apple compote is a classic and our recipe using Bramleys can be whipped up in no time. Let your little ones enjoy a pot on its own for a healthy snack or simply spoon over porridge or cereal to lure them out of bed in the morning. Fast forward to the evening and if you’re in need of a quick dessert, finish off a batch of pancakes with a generous spoonful. They’ll taste flipping marvellous.
Crisp it up
Keep your child’s hunger pangs at bay with these deliciously moreish Apple Crisps. Naturally sweet and crunchy, they’re a great way to introduce a healthier ‘crisp’ into your child’s lunchbox. Plus, large batches can be cooked in advance and stored in an airtight jar – handy if you’re short on time during the week.
Bake to school
Our Baked Bramleys are ideal for those busy weeknights when you’re in need of a quick, nutritious meal in a flash. Simply scoop out the core of a tasty Bramley apple and a little of the flesh to make room for the filling. The beauty of this dish is you can experiment with different sweet and savoury versions, but a firm family favourite is our recipe with ham and cheese – guaranteed to be met with smiles all around the dinner table.
